THE LAST TRAM RIDE

Overview

This resource focuses on researching, interpreting and analysing information from a different time period. Students translate and adopt the practices of the era to portray their interactions when travelling on a tram. In this activity, the students will write a diary entry from one of the passengers or on-lookers points of view. They will highlight their emotions, feelings and ideas shared by experiencing this historic moment.

WESTERN DERBY DAY

Overview

This resource explores the various roles of the Transperth Train Operations. Students will apply their problem-solving skills from the perspective of a Transperth employee to solve various scenarios through role play. Students focus upon the network as a whole and the planning associated within the organisation when there is a planned disruption to services through maintenance or changes to the network infrastructure.

Overview

This resource provides opportunities for students to explore, examine, design and link the present to the future when examining public transport.

Student consider a range of options when designing a more sustainable future that considers the elements of the past.

This resource introduces students to the use of smartcards. It is the second part of a two-part resource on ticketing. This resource focuses specifically on Transperth’s electronic ticketing system, SmartRider. It teaches students how to read and interpret information presented in a number of different formats. It also provides them with the opportunity to explore and understand the benefits of using public transport as a sustainable way to travel.

Don’t Mess With Bus is an exciting bus safety program for primary and secondary students. Whether you’re a pedestrian, pensioner, pavement-pounder, push bike rider or a passenger, there’s something everyone can learn from Don’t Mess With Bus.

The program can be slotted straight into curriculum and we’ve provided everything you need to get going straight away.

Primary Overview

Featuring three animated scenarios around buses students will undertake science investigations aimed at educating them about bus safety and avoiding distractions around the network.

EXCURSION, EXCURSION: THE SMARTRIDER VERSION

Overview

This lesson is designed so each student can obtain a SmartRider and travel on excursions using public transport.

Students will learn the benefits of using public transport and SmartRider over a regular ticket or group ticket. They demonstrate their understandings by writing a persuasive letter which they take home along with an application form, to their parents to ask them for permission to set up a SmartRider and add value to allow it to be used for an excursion. This enables students to take an active role in the process of acquiring a SmartRider and facilitates their involvement in the school excursion planning.
