Stirling Station

Author: Alex Gerrard

5 Mar 2024

One of WA's most prominent early colonial figures in the stories of so many Perth stations, it's only right at least one station is named after them.

Stirling Station was named after James Stirling – WA’s first Governor – who played a big part in forming the Swan River Colony.

Stirling arrived on WA soil for the first time aboard the Success in March 1827. After exploring the land, he reported back to London that the area around the Swan River was ideal for a permanent settlement.

He returned in May 1829 to officially start the Swan River Colony and he administered the colony until 1832, before taking up the mantle again from 1834 until 1838.

FUN FACT:

Stirling is probably the most famous station on the Transperth system after CCTV footage of the 2014 “train that rocked” incident set the internet on fire, and made international headlines.
