Perth’s new Thornlie-Cockburn Line – a game-changer for commuters and students

The Thornlie-Cockburn Link - Perth’s first East-West cross line connection - started  official passenger services on Monday 9 June and now provides travel options for commuters between Mandurah and Armadale. And, with the introduction of an updated bus network, getting to and from these stations has never been easier.

Train services on the Armadale Line will resume between Victoria Park and Cannington, restoring convenient connections for communities along the route, and from Cannington extend towards the 17.5km Thornlie-Cockburn Link, which includes new stations at Nicholson Road and Ranford Road.

To mark this momentous milestone, METRONET hosted a community event on 8 June at Thornlie, Nicholson Road, and Ranford Road stations with family-friendly activities, free food, live entertainment, and local community stalls—a fantastic way to celebrate another significant expansion of Perth’s transport system.

For schools along the route, the new line offers an exciting alternative for commuting students, along with group ticketing options for school excursions.

If you're a teacher planning an excursion, now is the perfect time to take advantage of Transperth’s Group Ticketing! With student fares completely free and adult tickets just $5.20, this incredible offer makes excursions more accessible than ever.

“This is an amazing opportunity to get your class out and about to some of Perth’s most amazing excursion destinations, fully coordinated by Transperth.” Says Sibela from Transperth Education. “From Boola Bardip to Perth Zoo, you can get there quicker than ever before.”
