The much-anticipated C-series train is finally here! Built locally at the Bellevue railcar manufacturing facility, this is the first train manufactured in WA in 30 years. The C-series train comprises of six railcars with nearly 390 seats and more than 1500 passengers in all.
Each railcar has six doors (three each side) which, combined with a more efficient interior layout, reduces boarding times at stations and increasing passenger capacity. The C-series will use regenerative braking to reduce energy consumption and is also the first passenger train on Perth’s rail network with USB ports to charge devices while travelling.
The Bellevue Railcar Manufacturing and Assembly Facility will deliver 246 new railcars (41 trains) over the next 10 years, employing 150 people and using the services of more than 15 local manufacturing businesses.
This new C-series train is currently operating on the Joondalup and Mandurah lines, maximising capacity along the two busiest lines.
