Ever been at a station and wondered why there’s a yellow line or strip of tactile markers? Ever since we were kids ourselves, we’ve had it instilled in us the importance of standing back. But what if that information wasn’t passed on? What if assuming young people know the importance of staying back from the yellow line puts our young people at risk of injury or worse?

So why is it there? Train stations can be dangerous. With any heavy vehicle movement, there’s risk if the appropriate behaviours are ignored or not followed. The yellow line exists as a visual reminder that by crossing that line, you are putting yourself and potentially others at risk.

Our team attends the launch of the Department of Transport’s Roadmap program. As part of the Your Move initiative, Roadmap aims to get kids cycling, walking, and taking public transport to school to promote an active lifestyle and reduce traffic congestion.

Another successful BStreetSmart event for the team at Transperth Information and Events Services. Over 3,000 students attended the annual event at RAC arena via Transperth services to learn about risk averse driving.

Lakelands Station opening will unveil new mural created by Perth artists Seantelle Walsh and Sioux Tempestt, with designs provided by some talented locals. Year 6 students from Lakelands Primary school have had their drawings immortalised as they become part of the new Lakelands Station, which opens to the public on June 11.

The looming holidays mean that students will soon be out and about on Transperth services. However, an increase in travel activity means an increased risk of a child being injured while making their way around our community. With close calls and an increasing number of students injured after alighting a bus, a greater level of attention and recognition about the risks involved is needed. With the end of year fast approaching, your mind is no doubt turning towards programming for 2023.  Our Transperth Get on Board program is a great way for education support students to start their journeys or reinforce their prior knowledge as they work towards independence.

On the 29th of June, the Year 9 Cohort participated in the Ultimate Urban Challenge, a Greatest Race style course spanning between Perth and Fremantle with the goal of not only helping students navigate and adapt in an urban environment, but also to push them to learn to become independent, work in a team and have confidence in stressful situations. This was even more challenging than usual as the use of mobile phones was prohibited.
